Program Overview

Madison Are Technical College has created a Human Resources Certificate program that strives to educate students in the field of human resources. The program is designed to strengthen the student’s knowledge about human resources within the work environment. 

The Human Resources Certificate program courses will be provided at the Fort Atkinson, Portage, Reedsburg, Truax and Watertown campuses. Students may choose to complete some selected certificate program courses completely online. Courses offered within the program are Introduction to Human Resources, Human Resource Management, Labor Relations and Employment Law.  Students will have to complete all courses with a grade of “C” or higher and maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0. 

Within the Human Resources Certificate program courses, students will learn a variety of topics. Many topics will be applicable to the human resource field such as nature of human management, issues within human resources, employee rights, union relations, basic systems and compensation plans. Students will be educated in skills such as hiring and firing practices, bargaining, grievance management and staffing jobs. 

With successful completion of the program, students will earn the Human Resources Certificate. Certificate program students may find potential careers as Human Resources Assistant, Human Resources Representative, Human Resources Clerk, Human Resources Coordinator and Human Resources Technician. Careers, such as Human Resource Specialist, Human Resource Analyst and Human Resource Manager, may be obtained with additional education and work experience.

    School Overview

    Madison Area Technical College is a four-year public college located in Madison, Wisconsin. The school has grown tremendously from its foundation in 1912 and is now one of the largest 16 schools in the Wisconsin Technical College System. MATC has developed formal agreements with a number of four-year colleges and universities, which enable students to transfer the credits earned in an associate degree program to a specific institution.

    Students can choose from associate’s degrees, technical diplomas, and certificates. Accelerated programs are available if students are interested in reducing time of completion.
