Program Overview

The Business Technology programs at Madison College is dedicated in preparing students to use the technology within the business environment and to teach the skills needed for students to excel within their careers. The Business Technology Department offers an Administrative Professional Associate Degree program that is available online that is designed for potential students that are employed within a business office. The Administrative Professional program educates students in skills needed in carrying out the duties for administrative support. These skills include education in computer software/hardware, as well as administrative and interpersonal skills. 

The Administrative Professional Associate Degree program is two years in length. Examples of first year courses are Applied Accounting, Proofreading and Editing, Records Management, and Customer Contact Skills. Some second year courses include Business Writing and Research, Professional Development, Psychology of Human Relations and Exploring Business Technologies. Students must receive a grade of C or better on all courses within the program in order to graduate. 

After receiving the Administrative Professional Associated Degree, graduates will be able to lead an office efficiently, communicate professionally both orally and within the written format, identify professional behaviors and ideals within the work setting, use technology and the required technical skills to provide answers to problems and to manage information, as well as display effective interpersonal skills and the appropriate attitude within the work environment.

Upon completion of the program graduates may advance their education and experience within the work field to open opportunities to supervisor and manager positions. Possible career options include Administrative Assistant, Administrative Support, Information Coordinator, Office Assistant, Receptionist and Secretary. Graduates of the program have been found, on average, to make $32,500 a year.

    School Overview

    Madison Area Technical College is a four-year public college located in Madison, Wisconsin. The school has grown tremendously from its foundation in 1912 and is now one of the largest 16 schools in the Wisconsin Technical College System. MATC has developed formal agreements with a number of four-year colleges and universities, which enable students to transfer the credits earned in an associate degree program to a specific institution.

    Students can choose from associate’s degrees, technical diplomas, and certificates. Accelerated programs are available if students are interested in reducing time of completion.
