Program Overview

Luther Rice College and Seminary offers a Master of Arts in Bible Counseling that is well suited for students who wish to enhance their specialized knowledge of the Bible in order to positively enhance the lives of others through counseling. Students will gain in-depth knowledge on the Old Testament, New Testament, counseling theories, theology, the Bible, sociology, ethics, philosophy, and much more. Individuals will be fully prepared to work in counseling positions in churches or other related establishments. Graduates who earn this degree can expect to find employment in churches or religious counseling centers. Individuals often work as church counselors, ministry staff, lay counselors, jail/prison chaplains, counseling center directors, young & family pastors, law enforcement chaplains, christian counselors, or in other related positions.
The Master of Arts in Bible Counseling Program consists 36 total credit hours. Students are required to complete specific required core courses in order to successfully complete the program. Core courses that students must complete include: Introduction to Research and Writing, Introduction to the Old Testament, Introduction to Psychology and Counseling Theories, Foundations of Biblical Counseling, Introduction to the New Testament, Introduction to Biblical Hermeneutics, Helping Skills; Spiritual Formation, Marriage and Family Counseling; Issues, Ethics, and Legal Concerns for Counselors, Crisis Counseling and Pastoral Care, Methodology for Biblical Counseling, and Biblical Counseling Practicum. Courses that are offered through this program are designed help graduates be knowledgeable and competent while working in counseling positions within religious establishments or other organizations.

Courses for this program are available online. This online learning environment provides flexibility for enrolled students who are employed or have other obligations. Students must be highly disciplined to complete a large amount of coursework. Time management, a reliable internet connection, and word processing skills are very important for students who enroll in this degree program.

    Luther Rice University and Seminary (LRU) is a member of the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS), having been awarded reaffirmed status as a Category IV institution by the TRACS Accreditation Commission on November 28, 2005; this status is effective for a period of ten years.

    School Overview

    Luther Rice College and Seminary is a private, four-year Baptist institution located in Lithonia, Georgia. The school’s mission statement is “to provide theological education for Christian ministers and leaders around the world with an end to granting undergraduate and graduate degrees.” The educational experience offered is designed to “instill biblical core values essential to excellence in Christian ministry and leadership.” In mid-1962, the State of Florida granted a charter for a seminary to be placed in Jacksonville, Florida, and Luther Rice University was created. In 1991, the Seminary moved from Jacksonville to Lithonia, Georgia. The name of Luther Rice Seminary was changed in 2004 by the action of the Trustees to Luther Rice University.

    Luther Rice awards bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees. Students can earn a degree exclusively through online studies, through traditional classroom format, or in a hybrid format. Almost 300 online courses are offered per year, which are delivered through secure servers using Blackboard and standard Internet connections.
