Program Overview

The Medical Office Receptionist program prepares individuals for medical office receptionist employment. Scheduling appointments, greeting patients and verifying insurance information are a few of the many duties typically performed by medical receptionists.

Students learn about administrative duties as they relate to working in a hospital, clinic or physician's office. They learn to provide customer service to patients and visitors, while also interacting with doctors and other clinical and hospital staff. The program also instructs candidates on medical office software programs and applications, workplace human relations and medical laws and ethics.

Students who successfully complete this program will be able to appropriately manage telephone communications and schedule office, surgical, and diagnostic procedures, receive patients and visitors, apply legal and ethical standards, create and maintain confidential patient records; sort and disperse incoming mail, and utilize the computer to perform office functions: key documents and other correspondence using correct grammar and punctuation, enter patient information, complete billing, enter payroll, record insurance information, schedule patient appointments, etc.

The total credit hours for the Medical Office Receptionist program is 16.
