Program Details

Lock Haven University’s Master of Education in Educational Leadership program is designed to prepare visionary leaders with the knowledge, skills, and mindset that enable effective development of certain skills. These include student motivation, student achievement, professional growth, curriculum development and implementation, school improvement, human resource leadership, and the able management of the day-to-day operations within a school setting.

The Master of Education in Educational Leadership degree is appropriate for those who desire to be educational leaders. Additionally, the program prepares who have an interest in seeking Principal Certification in Pennsylvania with the theoretical grounding necessary to be an effective change agent. The current educational reform climate requires perspective, adaptability, and skills that the MED in Educational Leadership is uniquely positioned to deliver to students requiring flexible schedules. All those teaching in public and private settings as well as alternative, early education, or intermediate unit programs would be well served by the program, as would current educational leaders interested in increasing their skills and knowledge and enhancing their leadership skills.

The program is designed to meet the Pennsylvania Inspired Leadership (PIL) standards developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The program has been approved by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Students must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, a Pennsylvania teaching certification, and a minimum of three years classroom teaching experience. The program is ideal for those who desire to earn Principal Certification in the state of Pennsylvania.

The Master of Educational Leadership program is designed to maximize the efficient use of technology for online teaching and learning, while maintaining a personal, one-to-one mentoring and supervision relationship with degree candidates. The utilization of web-based online delivery in many courses provides an opportunity for highly motivated graduate students to participate in a rigorous leadership program. Candidates participate in a field experience requirement of 425 hours. The requirement meets and exceeds standards established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

The program's convenience and flexibility enables in-service educators to complete their graduate education at a pace and on a schedule that fits the needs of their busy lifestyles and needs. Graduate students follow the standard university schedule 15 week fall and spring semesters, and two five-week condensed summer sessions. The modular format of online delivery does not require a student to be on the computer following a specific schedule. Students have the luxury of studying at times that are most convenient to them.
