Program Overview

The Educational Technology program is taught in a blend of online and in-person delivery methods. It represents and uses many of the changes that are beginning to occur and will continue throughout the student's career.

The 30-credit M.S. in Educational Technology program is taught in local school districts on Long Island and via online coursework. Classes meet in school settings such as Herricks Union Free School District in New Hyde Park, N.Y., the Half Hollow Hills School District in Dix Hills, N.Y., and Southampton School District, Southampton, N.Y. Completion of this program satisfies New York State requirements for professional certification.

The M.S. in Educational Technology provides an opportunity to qualify for New York State Certification (Educational Technology Specialist) that can enhance career options. The M.S. in Educational Technology program is designed for certified K-12 teachers to earn New York State professional certification and/or as an Educational Technology Specialist. It also is designed for the teacher who wants to be part of the changing world of education caused by constantly evolving technologies.

The program moves thinking from the bricks-and-mortar style of learning to learning one that builds communities of practice within the virtual world of cloud technologies, on-line learning materials, and multi-media.

    School Overview

    Long Island University is a four-year private school located in Brooklyn, New York. LIU was formed in 1926 by the New York State Education Department to provide effective and affordable education to people from all walks of life.

    LIU has two main campuses, one located in Brooklyn, and one located in Brookville. Educational programs are offered at LIU sites located in Brentwood, Riverhead, Rockland, and Westchester. The Brooklyn campus is the original location of Long Island University. Long Island University offers certificates of completion, associate’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and doctor’s degrees. LIU Brooklyn offers online degrees from the School of Nursing.
