Program Overview

The Associate of Science in Mathematics from Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois is a transferable degree program intended for students who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a senior institution such as a four-year college or university. This program serves as a foundation for further academic pursuits in computer mathematics, statistics, systems analysis/operations research, or mathematics education. Students who plan on advancing into a four-year college or university should verify the requirements needed for those senior-programs, which may vary from school to school. This program requires students who plan on pursuing careers as teachers in a secondary school setting to take the Test of Academic Proficiency before matriculating to an upper-pision institution.

 

Like most associate degrees at Lincoln Land Community College, this program requires the student to take and pass general education courses. These courses include EGL 111 and 102 Composition I and II, SPE 101 Public Speaking Fundamentals, and POS 101 or 201 Introduction to American Politics or State and Local Government. Recommended general education courses that fulfill the rest of the requirements are: MAT 131 and 132 Calculus and Analytic Geometry I and II, PHY 201 Physics I, three Humanities classes, two Social Science courses, and a Life Science class. 

 

Suggested courses that meet major requirements are: MAT 215 Introduction to Linear Algebra, MAT 233 Calculus and Analytic Geometry III, and MAT 235 Differential Equations. Suggested classes that support the major are: CSC 175 Computer Science I and PHY 202 Physics II. It is important to note that some classes do not transfer as the same level into some high institutions.

 

The recommended time frame for completion of this degree is over the course of four semesters. Four to six courses each semester should be taken to fulfill requirements in this time span. 

 

This online degree program from Lincoln Land Community College is a practical and convenient solution to students who lack the ability to access traditional education opportunities. Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program. Some exceptions can be made.
