Program Overview

The Associate of Arts in Literature is a transferable degree program offered by Lincoln Land Community College is for students who plan to transfer to a bachelor degree program at a senior institution like a four-year college or university. This program suggests students take the Test of Academic Proficiency exam before transferring. Students who plan on advancing into a four-year college or university should verify the requirements needed for those senior-programs, which may vary from school to school.

Like most associate degree at Lincoln Land Community College, this program requires the student to take and pass general education courses. These courses include EGL 111 and 102 Composition I and II, SPE 101 Public Speaking Fundamentals, and POS 101 or 201 Introduction to American Politics or State and Local Government. Recommended general education courses include HIS 111 and 112 United States History to 1877 and Since 1877, HUM 112 Introduction to Humanities, PHI 204 Introduction to Philosophy, PSY 101 Introduction to Psychology. Students are also required to take a Mathematics course, a Life Science course, a Physical Science course, as well as an elective Literature course. 

The courses that are recommended specifically for this major are: LIT 201 Survey of English Literature: Anglo-Saxon through Neoclassical Age, LIT 202 Survey of English Literature: Romantic Movement through Contemporary Period, LIT 210 Survey of American Literature: Colonial Era to Civil War, LIT 211 Survey of American Literature: Civil War to Present. Two Foreign Language electives as well as another Literature electives are also recommended. These electives can include advanced courses in surveys of Literature or Creative Writing courses. The recommended time frame for completion of this degree is over the course of four semesters. Four to six courses each semester should be taken to fulfill requirements in this time span. 

This online degree program from Lincoln Land Community College is a practical and convenient solution to students who lack the ability to access traditional education opportunities. Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program. Some exceptions can be made.
