The Legal Office Professional Certificate of Completion is an occupational program offered by Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois. Since this is not a degree, non-related courses such as general education classes are not required. The seven required courses should be taken in the course of two semesters.
This program consists of seven three-credit-hour classes. The only prerequisite is to be able to type 40-45 words per minute. If this is not possible, then COS 101, a class in advanced keyboarding, must be completed.
The required courses are as follows: CAS 121 Computer Systems and Business Applications, COM 104 or COM 111 Career Communications or Composition I, COS 108 Legal Terminology and Transcription, COS 111 Administrative Office Procedures, COS 200 Advanced Document Production, COS 218 Legal Office Correspondence, and COS 220 Filing and Records Management. All of these classes teach the skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to gain entry as an entry-level legal office professional. Classes such as COS 108 and COS 218 deal specifically with legal office related subjects and topics.
This online certification program from Lincoln Land Community College is a practical and convenient solution to students who lack the ability to access traditional education opportunities. Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program. Some exceptions can be made.
