Program Overview

The Certificate of Completion in the area of Help Desk Level II is an occupational program offered by Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois. This program is intended for those individuals who seek employment in an office or customer service environment and need basic computer and business skills and knowledge to do so. Since this is a vocational certificate and not an academic degree, no non-related classes are required to fulfill requirements. Students who wish to enroll in this program must complete Help Desk Level I before beginning Help Desk Level II.

Students must take seven three-credit hour degree courses for completion of this program. They can choose between COM 111 Composition I and COM 104 Career Communications I as the first class. COM 111 Composition I is the “regular” English composition class wherein a student learns the writing process of developing and supporting a thesis in an organized essay. COM 104 Career Communications I is more focused on vocational communication skills. Students learn to write business letters, memos, instructions, and effective process and technical modes of communication.

Then students must choose between CNC 115 and 110. CNC 115 is Cisco Academy Discovery I, a course that emphasizes real-world practical applications of design, installation, and operation of networks. CNC 110 is Cisco Academy Semester I, which is a similarly introductory course on Cisco networks.

CTC 135 is Cisco IT Essentials II provides information on Windows, UNIX, and the Linux network operating systems. How to assess and prevent security issues are covered in this class. CTC 220 Micro Operating Systems for Tech Users teaches students in-depth knowledge concerning technical aspects of operating systems, especially as it relates to networking. CTC 245 Help Desk II: User Support is the advanced class on Help Desk operations. Students learn strategies on how to evaluate computer products and analyze and access user needs for computer hardware, software, and network products.

The suggested electives for completion of this program are CAS 150 and CAS 160. CAS 150 is Database Applications: an advanced class that educates students on the development and production of relational databases. CAS 160 is Presentation and E-mail (MS PPT / Outlook). This course focuses on the development and production of professional presentation materials using concepts of design and graphic design techniques.

This online certification program from Lincoln Land Community College is a practical and convenient solution to students who lack the ability to access traditional education opportunities. Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program. Some exceptions can be made.
