The Certificate of Completion in the area of Help Desk Level I is an occupational program offered by Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois. This program is intended for those individuals who seek employment in an office or customer service environment and need basic computer and business skills and knowledge to do so. Since this is a vocational certificate and not an academic degree, no non-related classes are required to fulfill requirements.
Students must take four three-credit hour degree courses for completion of this program. The first class is CAS 121 Computer Systems and Business Applications. This course is an introduction to computer applications and concepts. Skills and knowledge in word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software are learned in this class.
CTC 125 Cisco IT Essentials is a required class that teaches the student the basics of technology as well as the assembly of a computer program. This course is an overview of hardware fundamentals for servers, fundamentals of a network and the physical components of a network.
CTC 150 Introduction to Help Desk and Software Install provides information to help students understand the concepts of a help desk and different career paths that they can follow in the Help Desk field.
The recommended electives are CAS 130 and CAS 140. CAS 130 covers the basics of word processing applications, especially MS Word. CAS 140 focuses on spreadsheet applications and specifically MS Excel. Students can choose between one and the other to fulfill the last requirement of the program.
This online certification program from Lincoln Land Community College is a practical and convenient solution to students who lack the ability to access traditional education opportunities. Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program.
