Program Overview

The Fire Prevention Principles Certificate of Completion is a one-course occupational program offered by Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois. A certificate of completion is a form of recognition awarded by a community college for meeting minimum occupational course requirements. This certificate of Completion could be used to prepare a student to successfully complete the Fire Prevention Principles exam given by the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Since this program is not academic, but vocational in nature no other classes in different subjects are required for completion.

The only class required for completion of this certificate program is FST 103 Fire Prevention Principles. It is worth four credit hours. In this course students are introduced to fire protection codes and standards; construction methods and occupancy classifications in relation to fire inspections; as well as conducting fire inspections and investigations. Other concepts concerning fire prevention and safety that are covered in this course are: various aspects of fire protection systems and the development of a public fire education program. This course is offered completely online with the exception of one classroom meeting during the semester.

Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program.
