Program Overview

The Associate of Arts in English is a transferable degree program offered by Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois. This program meets general education requirements for most senior institutions and some of the requirements for students who wish to pursue baccalaureate degrees in English and/or Communications. Students who plan on advancing into a four-year college or university should verify the requirements needed for those senior-programs, which may vary from school to school.

Like most associate degree at Lincoln Land Community College, this program requires the student to take and pass general education courses. These courses include EGL 111 and 102 Composition I and II, SPE 101 Public Speaking Fundamentals, and POS 101 or 201 Introduction to American Politics or State and Local Government. Courses that are suggested to fulfill other requirements for general education include: HIS 111 or 112 United States History 10 1877 or Since 1877, HUM 101 Introduction to Humanities, MAT 104 General Education Mathematics, PHI 201 Introduction to Logic, and PSY 101 Introduction to Psychology. Courses in Life Science, Physical Science, and, of course, Literature are required. 

Specific major related Courses that are suggested to fulfill requirements are: LIT 201 Survey of English Literature: Anglo-Saxon through the Neoclassical Age, LIT 210 Survey of American Literature: Colonial Era to Civil War, and LIT 211 Survey of American Literature: Civil War to Present. Recommended program that support this major are: JRN 222 Mass Media and Society, LIT 202 Survey of English Literature: Romantic Movement and the Contemporary Period, and PHI 204 Introduction to Philosophy. The recommended time frame for completion of this degree is over the course of four semesters. Four to six courses each semester should be taken to fulfill requirements in this time span. 

This online degree program from Lincoln Land Community College is a practical and convenient solution to students who lack the ability to access traditional education opportunities. Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program. Some exceptions can be made.

LLCC was founded in 1968 by primarily farmers to provide high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective educational opportunities in the central Illinois area. The campus is located less than half of a mile away from University of Illinois at Springfield.
