Program Overview

The Associate of Science in Economics is a transferable degree program offered by Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois. Students who wish to continue their studies in economics via a senior institution or four-year college or university’s bachelor degree program are recommended for this program. This particular program serves as a foundation for further academic pursuits in marketing, finance, logistics, international business, public administration, and law. A bachelor or higher degree in economics opens doors to careers in consulting, analyzing, and managerial situations. Students who plan on advancing into a four-year college or university should verify the requirements needed for those senior-programs, which may vary from school to school. 

Like most associate degree at Lincoln Land Community College, this program requires the student to take and pass general education courses. These courses include EGL 111 and 102 Composition I and II, SPE 101 Public Speaking Fundamentals, and POS 101 or 201 Introduction to American Politics or State and Local Government. Three humanities courses, a Physical Science course, and a Social Science course are all needed to fulfill requirements. Recommended courses to fulfill general education courses include: BIO 101 General Biology, ECO 131 Principles of Economics, MAT 130 Calculus for Business and Social Science, and MAT 140 Finite Mathematics. 

The courses recommended for this particular major include ECO 132 Principles of Economics (macroeconomics) and ECO 210 Economics of Social Issues. ACC 103 and 104 Financial and Managerial Accounting (respectively), CAS 121 Computer Systems and Business Applications, and MAT 141 Introductory Statistics are recommended support courses for this major. The recommended time frame for completion of this degree is over the course of four semesters. Four to six courses each semester should be taken to fulfill requirements in this time span. 

This online degree program from Lincoln Land Community College is a practical and convenient solution to students who lack the ability to access traditional education opportunities. Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program.
