Program Overview

The Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice is an occupational program degree offered by Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois. This program is intended for students who wish to enter the Criminal Justice field as a non- or para-professional. This program offers field studies with organizations such as Department of IL Human Services, IL Department of Corrections, community-based family/youth services, and county adult/juvenile probation. 

Like most associate degree at Lincoln Land Community College, this program requires the student to take and pass general education courses. These courses include EGL 111 and 102 Composition I and II, SPE 101 Public Speaking Fundamentals, and POS 101 or 201 Introduction to American Politics or State and Local Government. A math course and a science course are also required to meet general education requirements. 

Required program courses include: CRJ 101 Violent and Criminal Behavior, CRJ Introduction to Corrections, CRJ 104 Introduction to Human Services, CRJ 105 Introduction to Criminal Justice Systems, CRJ 201 The Juvenile Offender, CRJ 207 Substance Abuse, CRJ 210 Probation, Parole, and Community-based Corrections, CRJ 252 Courts and Victim Services, and LEA 201 Substantive Criminal Law. Introductory classes in Psychology (101) and Sociology (101) are also required as support courses. 

This program also requires an internship (CRJ 275) worth four credit hours. The student will be assigned to a criminal justice agency for 300 supervised hours of exposure to various aspect of the operation of a working law-enforcement agency. Students must have “sophomore” status and have a 2.0 GPA or higher. 

The recommended time frame for completion of this degree is over the course of four semesters. Four to six courses each semester should be taken to fulfill requirements in this time span. 

This online degree program from Lincoln Land Community College is a practical and convenient solution to students who lack the ability to access traditional education opportunities. Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program. Some exceptions can be made.
