Criminal Justice Associate in Arts

Program Details

The Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice is a transferable degree offered by Lincoln Land Community College in Illinois. This program is aimed at students who wish to use this degree to pursue a higher degree in Criminal Justice from a senior institution or four-year college or university. Completion of this program equips its graduates with the foundation in Criminal Justice (such as corrections, social work, or counseling) needed to start the pursuit of a bachelor degree in a similar program. Students who plan on advancing into a four-year college or university should verify the requirements needed for those senior-programs, which may vary from school to school. 

Like most associate degree at Lincoln Land Community College, this program requires the student to take and pass general education courses. These courses include EGL 111 and 102 Composition I and II, SPE 101 Public Speaking Fundamentals, and POS 101 or 201 Introduction to American Politics or State and Local Government. Other recommended general education courses include: PHI 205 Ethics: Morality and Contemporary Values, PSY 101 Introduction to Psychology, and SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology. Two humanities courses, a math course, a life science course, and a physical science course are all required to meet general education requirements. 

The courses recommended for completion of the Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice are: CRJ 101 Violent and Criminal Behavior, CRJ 102 Introduction to Corrections, CRJ 104 Introduction to Human Services, CRJ 105 Introduction to Criminal Justice system, CRJ 201 The Juvenile Defender, CRJ 207 Substance Abuse, and CRJ 251 Crime, Justice, and Social persity. A recommended elective for this major is CRJ 252 Courts and Victim Services. The recommended time frame for completion of this degree is over the course of four semesters. Four to six courses each semester should be taken to fulfill requirements in this time span.
