The Associate in Applied Science in Administrative Assistant/Office Professional program from Lincoln Land Community College is a mostly-online, vocational degree offered to students who wish to pursue careers in office administrations. The student will learn the skills and knowledge required to complete a variety of tasks in an office environment and meet the challenges therein. After completion of this program, students may be eligible to take the Certified Administrative Professional examination. Prospective students who have already passed CPS or CAP examinations may be able to apply for up to 21 credit hours of college proficiency credit.
Students must take 15 credit hours of required General Education courses in this program. Classes such as EGL 111 and 112 Composition I and II, MAT 104 General Education Mathematics, Quantitative Mathematics, MAT 105 Quantitative Literacy, POS 101 or POS 201 Introduction to American Politics or State and Local Government. These credits are necessary to build a solid foundation of math and communication skills for a well-rounded education.
The courses that are required for this specific program subject matter are: CAS 102 MS Windows Operating Systems, CAS 110 Internet Effectiveness, CAS 121 Computer Systems and Business Applications, CAS 130 Word Processing Applications – MS Word, CAS 140 Spreadsheet Application – MS Excel, CAS 150 Database Applications – MS Access, CAS 210 Forms Design Applications, COS 111 Office Procedures, COS 115 Customer Service, COS 200 Office Correspondence, COS 220 Records Management, COS 225 Office Supervision and Management, and COS 226 Professional Development.
Three classes in Specialization Requirements are also necessary. Classes in Business, Marketing, Medical Transcription, and Health Literacy are also required. A Work-Based Internship equal to three credit hours is also required. The recommended time frame for completion of this degree is over the course of four semesters. Four to five courses each semester should be taken to fulfill requirements in this time span.
This mostly-online degree program from Lincoln Land Community College is a practical and convenient solution to students who lack the ability to access traditional education opportunities. Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program.
