Program Overview

The Accounting Associate in Science degree program from Lincoln Land Community College is aimed at prospective students whom plan to earn a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. A possible career choice for graduates with this degree is a teacher of accounting. Those who plan on teaching accounting in a secondary school are required to take the Test of Academic Proficiency. Students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree and are using this associate’s as a springboard should check with the department so that the requirements of the college to which they would prefer to transfer are met via attaining this degree. 

Students need 62 credit hours to complete this program. The 12 credit hours in general education courses required for this degree include, but are not limited to: EGL 111 Composition I, EGL 112 Composition II, POS 101 Introduction to American Politics, SPE 101 Public Speaking Fundamentals, or POS 201 State and Local Government. 

Recommended General Education electives include: ECO 301 Principles of Economics, MAT 130 Calculus for Business and Social Science, or MAT 140 Finite Mathematics. Electives in the Humanities, Life Science, Physical Science, and Social Science are also necessary to acquire this degree. 

Recommended courses specific to this degree are: ACC 103 Financial Accounting, ACC 104 Managerial Accounting, and ACC 201 Intermediate Accounting. 

Recommended program electives include: CAS 121 Computer Systems and Business Applications, BUS 204 Management, ECO 132 Principles of Economics II (Macroeconomics), MAT 242 Mathematical Probability and Statistics, or MAT 141 Introductory Statistics. 

The recommended time frame for completion of this degree is over the course of four semesters. Four to five courses each semester should be taken to fulfill requirements in this time span. 

This mostly online degree program from Lincoln Land Community College is a practical and convenient solution to students who lack the ability to access traditional education opportunities. Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program. Some exceptions can be made.
