Accounting Associate in Applied Science
The Accounting Associate in Applied Science degree from Lincoln Land Community College is a mostly online degree program offered to inpiduals who seek to pursue a bachelor’s or to advance their career paths by gaining this degree. Skills and knowledge this program aims to provide to its graduates include: the ability to perform basic accounting for most types of business, prepare major financial statements, and interpret other accounting-based data and financial statements related to business personnel. Careers graduates might pursue include: estimator, credit analyst, budget accountant, bank teller, and account technician.
This program requires 62-64 credit hours of courses. These courses include General Education courses such as: Introduction to American Politics, State and Local Government, Career Communications, Composition, and classes in Math and Science. The core Accounting courses are: Introduction to Accounting, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Computerized Accounting Applications or Governmental Accounting, and Intermediate Accounting. It is important to note that Introduction to Accounting as well as Intermediate Accounting are both only offered as on-campus courses. Required Program Support Courses include: Business Law, Business Law II, Introduction to Business Organization, Management, Computer Systems and Business Applications, Principles of Economics (Microeconomics), and Macroeconomics.
Students are also required to take a Social Science elective as well as a free elective. The recommended electives include Public Speaking Fundamentals, a class on Federal Income Tax, and a Cooperative Education Work Experience course wherein a student is secured employment in a job related to Accounting. The recommended course sequence is that students take five courses a semester over the course of four semesters.
This mostly-online degree program from Lincoln Land Community College is a practical and convenient solution to students who lack the ability to access traditional education opportunities. Because of changes in federal guidelines prospective students of Lincoln Land Community College should be aware that only permanent residents of Illinois are able enroll in this program. Some exceptions can be made.
