Liberty’s 100% online Master of Arts in Teaching – Special Education 45 hour track provides students with the requirements for licensure to teach in both public and private schools. The core content of this degree covers essential learning theory and teaching practice that will equip students for teaching with special needs but also includes optional intensives for in-class mentorship. Students will also complete internship and practicum requirements in a school in their area while completing coursework online. Students who want to pursue special education often find that schools need teachers to cover specific grade level teaching needs. Liberty’s 45 hour MAT in Special Education allows students to use built-in electives to complete content competencies for grade-level specific endorsement areas. These electives will also allow students to pursue an additional endorsement area for licensure, providing flexibility in the marketplace and helping them better prepare for school districts with various teaching needs. Aside from special education, these electives allow students to further expand their credentials with a second endorsement in elementary, middle grades, or secondary education. Based on meeting these requirements, students will be eligible for state licensure in their teaching endorsement areas and can pursue teaching positions which require a license. They will also be well-equipped for roles in private schools or other educational institutions which do not require licensure, for curriculum development management roles, and academic administration roles.
