Program Details

Liberty University offers a Master of Arts degree in Religion with a specialization in Discipleship and Church Ministry for students who want to learn about the roles of disciples in ministry and the roles of submission and servitude in the care and ministering of others. Through the program, students such as pastors and laypersons will learn how spiritual transformation occurs through service to others by working with individuals and small groups. Students will learn how to design and develop, organize, and lead ministries through development of family discipleship, and the growth of churches through families and small groups.

The concept of the program is related through classes which demonstrate the roles and responsibilities in discipleship. Classes include Introduction to Apologetics; History of Christianity; Discipleships Ministries; Spiritual Formation; Contemporary Evangelism; Global Studies Survey; Preparation of the Sermon; New Testament Orientation; Hermeneutics; Old Testament Orientation; Introduction to Seminary Studies; Systematic Theology; Family Discipleship; Small Group Ministries; Leading a Healthy, Growing, Multiplying Church; and Church Administration.

Students will learn about the roles of disciples and develop the qualifications to lead and develop others into members of the church through discipleship. These qualifications include demonstrating a knowledge and understanding of the Bible, intended to help graduates learn to utilize the Bible for contemporary and cultural issues; demonstrating a competency in general education in order to become a more well-rounded individual and professional; demonstrating the professionalism in oral, written, technology, and visual communications; and demonstrating the leadership ability and professionalism appropriate for roles in ministry.
