Program Details

Liberty University’s 100% online Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Christian Leadership – Spiritual Formation is designed to help students address various educational and ministerial challenges using empirical research. In this program, students can become equipped to foster individual and corporate spiritual growth in their churches and communities. Students will explore the major components of spiritual formation as revealed in the Old and New Testaments, the history of the church, and the writings of major theologians. By studying a combination of theory and praxis, students can prepare to help others grow in their walk with Christ. This degree is an excellent option for Christian educators and school administrators, church ministerial staff members, and parachurch organization leaders who are looking to strengthen their leadership skills or pursue new job opportunities. Students will complete a rigorous sequence of research courses that culminates in a dissertation. The dissertation process can help students contribute to the base of knowledge in their field and develop skills that are essential in education and ministry leadership. Upon graduation, students can pursue roles as Christian education administrators, Christian educators, ministry directors, Christian school principals or presidents, church administrators, church discipleship coordinators, curriculum coordinators, spiritual formation directors, discipleship training leaders, and spiritual formation specialists.
