Bachelor of Education in Special Education
Liberty University

Program Details

Liberty’s 100% online Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Special Education is one of the first completely online special education tracks approved by the Virginia Department of Education for teacher preparation. Liberty’s School of Education is accredited by NCATE through CAEP, providing further support for this program’s excellence for teaching licensure. This approval means that students can complete their content, studies, and teaching requirements without having to travel to a university campus. Students in the B.Ed. in Special Education will gain expertise in the learning theory, teaching best practices, and resources needed for effective special education teaching. Students will learn how to asses and adapt to the needs of special needs students while providing a safe and inclusive learning environment. Students will learn how to identify needs early and apply cutting-edge learning strategies that will help children grow. With the B.Ed. program’s practicum and student teaching, students will have hands-on experience applying their studies to a classroom near them. This combination of flexible, 100% online studies and real-world practice will equip students to use their skills and knowledge to help children in the special education setting. This program is designed to provide all of the studies and requirements needed for special education licensure while not requiring on-campus attendance, so students who cannot make a traditional teaching licensure work for their schedules will benefit most from this program. Graduates of the B.Ed. in Special Education will have the skills, knowledge, and credentials to pursue roles as licensed special education teachers, special education consultants, special education ministry workers, and special education curriculum coordinators.
