Program Details

Liberty’s 100% online Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Middle Grades English is a teaching licensure-track designed to equip students with the broad exposure to topics and teaching skills needed to teach English and many other content areas at the elementary and middle school level. This degree’s content is designed to meet state licensure requirements for endorsement areas such as math, history, and social sciences while also providing specialized content in teaching middle-grades English literature, grammar, and writing. This program also meets standards set by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) through the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Students in the B.Ed. in Elementary Education – Middle Grades English will build on a foundation of teaching and education knowledge with specialized course content that prepares them to teach on all level-appropriate topics in writing and literature. Through this program, students will study a large body of literature and learn writing skills while gaining the teaching skills to pass this knowledge on to students. This program also includes hands-on experience in a classroom in students’ communities through over 90 hours of practicum and at least 1 full semester of student teaching. Students can prepare to pursue roles as licensed elementary or middle school teachers, private school English teachers, writing and literature curriculum coordinators, and literacy program directors with these skills.
