Program Details

Liberty University offers an online Bachelor of Science degree program with an emphasis in Crisis Counseling.  The flexible online format allows for professional students to earn a valuable degree for entry-level career goals, or serve as the foundation for higher educational aspirations.  The bachelor program is designed for those students wishing to begin a successful career in psychology, and teaches the knowledge needed for a thorough understanding of psychological theory and practice, qualitative and quantitative research methods and the importance of applying ethical principles.

Liberty University’s online degree program will showcase the psychological similarities and differences between people and the roles that gender, race, ethnicity, culture and class play in affecting all human perspectives and experiences.  Students of the program will use the learned methodologies to evaluate factors to determine cause and effect, reason, and solutions to socially negative behavior.  Students will gain insight into the development of personality based on the current influences and use modern theories, in the application of ideas about group dynamics relative to business, industry and public and private life.

The specialized crisis counseling courses give students the resources to utilize the diverse theoretical approaches of counseling and psychotherapy by evaluating methods and techniques.  In addition, students will explore the intricate functions of the human mind and body to better understand primary indicators of behavior.  The applicable study of origin, classification and symptoms of neurotic and psychotic behavior will be emphasized as students prepare for a career focused on impacting the lives of individuals and families with issues needing the careful and proper counseling before during and after a specific situation has caused distress.  The applicable methods for guidance will be provided from students to best suit each individual crisis with the influence of Christian faith based resolutions.

Graduates will be well prepared for entry–level careers in the psychology field and, as all students majoring in psychology, are required to participate in a number of activities proposed by the Psychology Department to ensure a student’s complete understanding and the practical field experience needed for many career positions.  Liberty University’s Psychology Club provides additional opportunities and resources for students and graduates to expand on educational growth through programs and interactions with department professors and industry professionals.  The Bachelor of Science degree serves as a foundation for students wishing to pursue a Master of Arts in Human Services, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Professional Counseling, which are all also offered online through Liberty University online.
