Liberty University offers an online Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree program with an emphasis on Addiction and Recovery.  The flexible, online program allows for professional students to earn a valuable degree for entry-level career goals or for the foundation of higher educational goals. The bachelor program is designed for students wishing to begin a successful career in psychology, and teaches the knowledge needed for a thorough understanding of psychological theory and practice, qualitative and quantitative research methods and the importance of applying ethical principles.

Liberty University’s online degree program will showcase the psychological similarities and differences between people and the roles that gender, race, ethnicity, culture and class play in affecting all human perspectives and experiences. Students of the program will use the learned methodologies to evaluate factors to determine cause and effect, reason and solutions to socially negative behavior.

Students will gain an insight into the development of personality based on current influences and use modern theories, in the application of ideas about group dynamics relative to business, industry and public and private life.  The specialized psychology courses give students the resources to utilize the diverse theoretical approaches of counseling and psychotherapy by evaluating methods and techniques. In addition, students will explore the intricate functions of the human mind and body to better understand primary indicators of behavior.  The applicable study of origin, classification and symptoms of neurotic and psychotic behavior will be emphasized as students prepare for a career focused on impacting the lives of individuals and families with issues of substance abuse.  The psychology program provides a comprehensive understanding of the effects addictive substances, as well as the required therapy and counseling methods for the recovery process.

Graduates will be well prepared for entry-level careers in psychological fields and, as all students majoring in psychology, are required to participate in a number of activities proposed by the Psychology Department to ensure a student’s complete understanding and the practical field experience needed for many career positions.  Liberty University’s Psychology Club provides additional opportunities and resources for students and graduates to expand on educational growth through programs and interactions with department professors and industry professionals.  The bachelors degree serves as a foundation for students wishing to further educational aspirations by earning a Master of Arts in Human Services, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Professional Counseling, which are also offered through Liberty University online.

Qualified students are invited to join Psi Chi, the Psychology International Honor Society.  Successful graduates of the B.S. program can gain professional experience, by taking advantage of the Psychology Departments internship program.
