Education
Liberty University offers an online Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in Elementary Education. The degree is specifically designed for students wishing to obtain initial teaching licensure regardless of under-graduate degree concentration.
The Master of Arts program builds on a student’s previous education by integrating math, science, natural sciences, language acquisition and reading skills for the elementary classroom.
The elementary education concentration reiterates the process of student planning, teaching mathematics, the sciences and reading and writing skills, while also focusing on the areas of classroom management, student behavior and curriculum creation. The students' previous education will serve as a foundation, and the masters level of education in teaching will serve as a refining tool in the graduates’ career opportunities. Graduates will be qualified for Virginia state approved licensure, and in addition, students should verify additional requirements for the states in which they reside. It is required that students of the Elementary Education program must complete three courses, or nine credit hours, in a face-to-face on-campus setting.
Liberty University offers an online Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in Secondary Education. The degree is specifically designed for students wishing to obtain initial teaching licensure, regardless of undergraduate degree concentration. The Master of Arts program builds on a student’s previous education by integrating math, science, natural sciences, history, language acquisition and reading skills for the middle and high school classroom setting.
The secondary education concentration reiterates the process of student planning, teaching mathematics, current news issues, the sciences and world reading and writing skills, while also focusing on the areas of classroom management, student behavior and curriculum creation. The students' previous education will serve as a foundation, and the masters level of education in teaching will serve as a refining tool in the graduates’ career opportunities. Liberty’s 100% online Master of Arts in Teaching – Secondary Education 45 hour track provides students with the requirements for licensure to teach in both public and private schools. The core content of this degree covers essential learning theory and teaching practice that will equip students for teaching, but also includes optional intensives for in-class mentorship. Students will choose one or multiple teaching areas and will also complete internship and practicum requirements in a school in their area while completing coursework online. Students who want to pursue licensed teaching but do not have a teaching-related bachelor’s degree will often need to meet extensive content competency requirements. Liberty’s 45 hour MAT in Secondary Education allows students to use built-in electives to complete content competencies. These electives will also allow students to pursue an additional endorsement area for licensure, providing flexibility in the marketplace and helping them better prepare for school districts with various teaching needs. Aside from secondary education, these electives allow students to further expand their credentials with a second endorsement in elementary, middle grades, or special education. Based on meeting these requirements, students will be eligible for state licensure in their teaching endorsement areas and can pursue teaching positions which require a license. They will also be well-equipped for roles in private schools or other educational institutions which do not require licensure, for curriculum development management roles, and academic administration roles.

Liberty University’s 100% online Master of Arts (M.A.) in Geography is designed to help students gain an advanced understanding of various geographical concepts and pursue their career goals. At Liberty, we understand students lead busy lives – which is why our degree program can be completed from the comfort of home in convenient 8-week courses with no set login times and no required intensives. This geography degree online can help students develop spatial awareness, problem-solving, research, and analytical skills that can help set them apart as qualified candidates in job applicant pools. This program exists to equip future geographers with the training needed to lead in their careers and pursue a variety of job opportunities. A major advantage to this degree is its versatility – people with a working knowledge of geography and geographic information systems (GIS) are highly sought after in several industries, which include the nonprofit, government, and private sectors. Additionally, this degree program is excellent for students pursuing advanced career credentials for geographic services, physical sciences, and geographic analysis.
Nursing
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree available at Liberty University is structured for nurses who want to learn to use evidence-based research to improve the quality of care they can provide for patients. Students in this program will also learn how to lead inter professional teams who are encouraging innovations that may advance health care, policies, and systems. Those who are interested in this program must already be practicing as a clinical nurse specialist, nurse leader, or nurse practitioner.
While the courses in this program are offered online, students are required to fulfill residency and practicums. In some instances, students may complete this requirement in their own area, if granted by their state approval process. The DNP program asks students to complete a total of 41 credit hours, which are broken in 27 credit hours of core courses and 14 hours of project and practicum courses. Some of the core courses students will participate in include Healthcare Operations & Financial Management, Translational Research in Healthcare, and Advanced Nursing Research.
By the end of this program, students should be able to use information systems and technology, apply evidence-based clinical decision making to relevant populations, be able to create health care environments that improve cost-effectiveness and quality, and blend advanced practice nursing with nursing science, research, theory, and scholarship. Liberty places focus on commitment, service, and learning through collaboration of students, faculty, and God. This school intends to challenge students to serve each other, strive towards excellence, and effectively prepare for their future career or position.
