Bachelor of Inderdisciplinary Studies and Texas Teacher Certification
The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Texas Teacher Certification at LeTourneau University is offered at educational centers in Longview, Houston, Austin, Bedford, Dallas and Tyler, Texas. Students are also able to take all courses online. The Teacher Certification is only applicable for Texas public schools and, therefore is only offered to Texas residents.
LeTourneau University accepts transferred credit from any institution accredited by one of the six U.S regional accrediting associations. Only credits with a grade of C or higher will be able to be transferred. Additionally, all transferred credits may be used to complete degree requirements more quickly.
The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Texas Teacher Certification offers an Early Childhood-Sixth Grade (Generalist) state certification or Fourth Grade-Eighth Grade (Generalist or Content) state certification. Additionally, students are able to choose concentrations in either education, English or social studies.Students are also able to minor in either Leadership, Management, Project Management or Psychology to supplement their Bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and Texas Teacher Certification.
Curriculum focuses on preparing students for state testing requirements and provides additional field and student teaching experience. Students must complete 6 credit hours of student teaching over a 13 week period. All student teaching is full-time and unpaid.
Program courses for the Early Childhood-Sixth Grade certification include Foundations of American Education and Culture, Development and Learning of the Young Child, Planning and Assessment, The Teaching of Reading, Classroom Management and Organization for the Elementary/Middle School, Methods of Elementary Language Arts and Social Studies Instruction, Methods of Elementary Math and Science Instruction, Remediation of Reading Difficulties, Literature for Children and Adolescents, Differentiating Classroom Instruction, Certification Preparation, and Student Teaching in the Elementary School.

LeTourneau University's teacher education program underwent its first program review and approval from the State Board for Educator Certification in October, 1993. It is accredited on an annual basis.
Students must meet Texas state required proficiencies.
LeTourneau begins its faith statement by declaring “a deep faith in God is the cornerstone of LeTourneau University.” This private not-for-profit university began as an all male college in 1956 by R.G. and Evelyn LeTourneau in Longview, Texas. It transitioned to a co-educational facility by 1961. It is an interdenominational Christian-based organization that welcomes students from all denominations.
