One path students may pursue at Lehigh Carbon Community College is the Accounting Certificate program. This program may provide students with necessary accounting skills to obtain entry-level positions at various businesses. Some of the potential positions are as follows: accounts payable clerk, accounts receivable clerk, purchasing clerk, and bookkeeper.
The entire certification requires students to complete 33.5 credits. The program may be tailored to work around a students existing schedule, but typically, students are enrolled in the program for four semesters. Each semester, students usually take between six and ten credits. The first semester, students take Principles of Accounting I, Introduction to Business Organization, and Introduction to Computers and Applications. Each semester following the first, students will progress into more advanced classes in order to build on the foundations they were taught in the beginning of this program.
After completion of the various courses, students should be able to display skills such as explaining basic financial accounting concepts and principles, demonstrating effective communication, and applying accounting concepts and principles for analyzing financial statements to a manufacturing business. Some students decide after earning am Accounting Certificate that further schooling is needed to pursue higher-level jobs. Credits from this program may be applied toward the A.A.S degree in accounting from Lehigh, and may also be transferrable to a 4-year university to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
