Lehigh Carbon Community College presents an Accounting A.A.S. degree, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Prospective students can expect to learn about the fundamental basics and methods involved in the field of accounting. The entire degree program takes 61.5-65 credits for full completion, and requires students to dedicate four semesters of study. Students will take a wide variety of general business courses as well as accounting specific courses such as: Intro to Business organization, Mathematics, Principles of Account I and II, Business Law, and Introduction to Sociology. Lehigh Carbon Community College also recommends students to take MAT 118, MAT 155, MAT 160, ECO 201 and 202.
Upon completion of this degree, students should be able to describe and apply basic financial accounting concepts and principles, demonstrate effective communication skills, exhibit ethical decision making in a business environment, and apply management, accounting, and computer skill in an internship or a simulated business environment.
Students may use this A.A.S degree to expose themselves to the basics of accounting to determine if they are considering a 4-year accounting degree. Most courses in the A.A.S. degree may be transferrable to 4-year universities. For those who just want to complete the A.A.S. program for entry-level careers, accounting positions in such areas as accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and purchasing may be ideal.
