Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies degree at Lee University is designed for students who have earned at least 60 hours of college credits. The religion core portion of the program includes a total of 15 credit hours. The courses in this program are intended to provide students with a biblical and theological foundation. The courses in this section of the program are BIBL 110, BIBL 111, THEO 230, and THEO 231.

In the general education core portion of the program a total of 42 credit hours are required. This includes 12 credit hours in the humanities, 12 credit hours in communications, six credit hours in social science, six credit hours in natural science and mathematics, and six hours in foreign language. The courses in the humanities section include HUMN 201, ENGL 221, and ENGL 222. The courses I the communications section include GNST 111, COMM 200, ENGL 106, and ENGL 110. In the foreign language section, students will have a choice between Spanish, Greek, Latin, or sign language. The mathematics credit must be completed in a 100-level course or higher. Also, in the social science section, students have the option to choose two of three courses. These courses include ECON 200, PSYC 200, and SOCI 200.

In the specialty area requirements, a minimum of 63 hours of general studies are required, and at least 30 hours of the specialty area must be in upper division (300 and 400 level) courses.

The student must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0, and a minimum of 120 credit hours are required for graduation. Students should also note that courses designated as general education or religion core requirements will not count toward the major.

    School Overview

    Lee University is a four-year private school located in Cleveland, Tennessee. The school was established in 1918 as a Bible Training School until 1947 when the name was changed to Lee College. The school was granted university status in 1997. Lee has become one of the largest Christ-centered private institutions in Tennessee and the largest in the Appalachian College Association.

    Lee University offers bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and post-master certificates. Academic programs are made up of four colleges and schools:

    • Helen DeVos College of Education
    • School of Music
    • School of Religion

    Online classes are offered through the division of Adult Learning using a program called Moodle. Courses are offered fully online, in an intensive format (hybrid online and onsite mix), or fully onsite at Lee education centers. Several undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered completely online, as well as certificates in ministry.
