Program Overview

Lasell College offers a Sport Non-Profit Management Certificate for professionals in sports and related fields whose career goals demonstrate understanding procedures and practices relating to nonprofit organizations related to sports. Students will study existing organizations such as the YMCA, boys and girls clubs, school sports clubs, and town and county sports organizations and related charities, with the goal of developing the necessary skill and knowledge for management of similar organizations. Students will gain a practical understanding of the principles of leadership in sports organizations as well as fundraising and development, and developing a legal, ethical, and responsible organization.

Individuals will learn about the administration and management of sports organizations whose goals are charitable or nonprofit. Those classes include planning and writing successful grant proposals, annual capital campaigns and major gifts, leading a legal, ethical, and responsible non-profit sport organization, media relations, fundamentals of executive development, financial management, current issues in sports, history and function of sport in society, sport sponsorship and marketing, and sport and the law.

Students completing the program will have demonstrated the necessary educational and professional qualifications for roles relating to the administration of nonprofit sporting organizations and sport-related nonprofit organizations.  These qualifications include but are not limited to: the ability to demonstrate effective professional and interpersonal practices essential in the business of sports administration, to develop a range of professional strategies that promote their effectiveness in a business environment, and to demonstrate ethical, legal, and responsible behavior toward sports competitions, and understand the role that sports organizations have in society as leaders and role models as members of the business community.

    Candidates to the certificate programs must hold a bachelor’s degree and submit an application for study in the graduate program along with all necessary documents.

    School Overview

    Lasell College is a four-year private school located in Newton, Massachusetts. Lasell College was founded in 1851 as the Auburndale Female Seminary, a nationally respected women’s academy, by Edward Lasell. Lasell died the first semester that the school was running. The name changed to Lasell Seminary for Young Women and was known as an innovative institution that had a radical approach (for the time) to women’s education. In 1932, the school’s name changed again to Lasell Junior College and became Lasell College in 1989.

    Lasell College offers bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees. LC has traditional classes as well as online courses. Lasell’s graduate programs are flexible and convenient, so students pursue an advanced degree that fits into their personal and professional lives. All master's degrees are offered online with six start dates throughout the year.
