Program Overview

Lasell College offers a Sport Leadership Certificate for professionals in sports and related fields with career interests that can be aided with certification demonstrating their knowledge related to the leadership and operation of sports teams, sports organizations, and sports-related businesses and industries. Students will learn about the operation of sports organizations and the major requirements of specialization and leadership required for those organizations, such as fundraising and development, and understanding compliance with practices and procedures of athletic governing bodies

Individuals in the program will learn about the administration of sports organizations, specializing in the administration and leadership of those organizations. Those classes include sports leadership to shape the future, fundraising and development, annual capital campaigns and major gifts, intercollegiate athletic rules and procedures, media relations, fundamentals of executive development, financial management, current issues in sports, and more.

Students completing the program will have demonstrated the necessary educational and professional qualifications for advanced roles in the leadership of sports teams and related organizations.  These qualifications include but are not limited to: the ability to demonstrate effective professional and interpersonal practices essential in the business of sports administration, to develop a range of professional strategies that promote their effectiveness in a business environment, and to demonstrate ethical, legal and responsible behavior toward sports competitions, and understand the role that sports organizations have in society as leaders.

    Requirements

    Candidates to the certificate programs must hold a bachelor’s degree and submit an application for study in the graduate program along with all necessary documents.

    School Overview

    Lasell College is a four-year private school located in Newton, Massachusetts. Lasell College was founded in 1851 as the Auburndale Female Seminary, a nationally respected women’s academy, by Edward Lasell. Lasell died the first semester that the school was running. The name changed to Lasell Seminary for Young Women and was known as an innovative institution that had a radical approach (for the time) to women’s education. In 1932, the school’s name changed again to Lasell Junior College and became Lasell College in 1989.

    Lasell College offers bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees. LC has traditional classes as well as online courses. Lasell’s graduate programs are flexible and convenient, so students pursue an advanced degree that fits into their personal and professional lives. All master's degrees are offered online with six start dates throughout the year.
