Professional Preparation Program for Principal Certification
The Professional Preparation Program for Principal Certification, offered through Lamar University, is available to graduate students with a master’s degree in Education. The Professional Preparation Program allows leaders in education to continue training by furthering skills in administration and leadership. Lamar University requires applicants to have two years of experience and possess a Texas teaching certificate to be eligible for this program.
The Professional Preparation Program for Principle Certification consists of 18 hours of coursework. This six-course program provides students the opportunity to develop basic leadership skills essential for schools to function properly. Lamar University promotes healthy leadership as a relationship between people and systems. For schools to thrive there needs to be relationships between the school and the community. A course titled School Community Relations implements strategies to form partnerships among students, parents, faculty, and the community to foster student learning. Students learn problem solving, facilitation skills, interpretation of case law, and ethical considerations when dealing with others. Students participate in an administration internship, which is designed to aid in campus leadership.
Applicants for the Principal Certification must occupy a Master’s degree. To be eligible for Texas Principal certification, applicants must have two years of teaching experience.
