Program Overview

The Lakeshore Technical College Accounting Assistant program aims to provide students with more than just preparation for entry-level bookkeeping. As federal guidelines for paid tax preparers are enacted, this program satisfies the current certification requirements. Good analytical skills and the ability to work independently are essential skills for those who are interested in the Accounting Assistant program.

Accounting assistant majors may work in a small business and be responsible for various aspects of bookkeeping. However, these individuals may also work in a larger firm under the supervision of an accountant and specialize in a certain area. If students are adaptable, energetic, organized, detail oriented and a good communicator, they should be able to be successful in today's accounting profession. Whether students begin their career immediately after completing this program, or wish to build on their Lakeshore Technical College credits to earn additional degrees, this program should prepare students to process financial transactions throughout the accounting cycle, analyze financial and business information to support planning and decision-making, and perform payroll preparation, reporting, and analysis tasks.
