Program Overview

The Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship Certificate of Completion offered by Kirtland Community College is a program of study available to students in a completely online format. This program is intended for individuals who wish to learn the basic skills and knowledge necessary to make a small business thrive. This program is appropriate for individuals who are small business owners, small business managers, or prospective small business owners or managers. This program is appropriate for individuals who want to take courses in art or technical areas and who wish to incorporate Business skills and knowledge with their technical expertise. The credit earned in this program can be transferred to Kirtland’s Associate of Applied Science in Business Management or the Associate of Applied Science in Technology Management.

This program emphasizes foundational business skills in the following subject areas: the fundamentals of Accounting, Accounting Principles, Computer Accounting / QuickBooks, General Business, Legal Environment of Business, Computers, and Customer Relations. This program requires its students to take and complete a minimum of 35 credit hours of courses. There are four separate tracks that a Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship student can take. These tracks are: Art, Accounting/Business/Marketing, Computer Information Systems, and Cosmetology. A student should choose their track according to their personal interests and career goals.

This program can be completed through a combination of online courses offered by Kirtland Community College and other courses offered by the Michigan Community College Virtual Learning Collaborative.

    Kirtland Community College is a two-year public school located in Roscommon, Michigan. Kirtland was founded in 1966 under the provisions of Michigan's Public Act 188 of 1955. Kirtland's mission is “to provide innovative educational opportunities to enhance student lives and build stronger communities” with a vision to “be the first choice for learner-centered education guiding students and communities toward success.”

    Kirtland Community College offers certificates of completion and associate’s degrees. Distance learning, weekend classes, and evening classes are offered at Kirtland, and many degrees and certificates can be earned completely online.
