Pharmacy Technology Certificate
The Pharmacy Technology Certificate offered by Kirtland Community College is a program of study available to students in a completely online format. This program is intended for individuals who are interested in advancing their careers and educations by enrolling in a program of study that will help them acquire the skills and knowledge needed to become Pharmacy Technicians. This program is offered over the course of two semesters and will prepare its graduates for entry-level pharmacy technician positions. The second semester requires a student to spend 288 hours in an internship under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
This program requires its students to take 25 credit hours of courses and clinical experiences and aims to prepare students to take the national certification exam. Graduates of this program will be able to order, stock, and package medications in hospitals, retail pharmacies, nursing homes, long-term care facilities, and mail-order or online service companies. There are some admissions requirements for this program. A prospective student must have a high school diploma or GED, students cannot have vision impairments such as colorblindness, bad depth perception, and bad peripheral vision, must be able to lift 35 pounds and pull 100 pounds. Students also must also take the COMPASS test to determine their Math and English skills.
The courses required for this program include: Introduction to Pharmacy Technology, Pharmacology and Pharmacy Calculation, Pharmacology Terminology with Physiology, Issues in Pharmacy Technology, Introduction to Interpersonal / Public Communication, and a Pharmacy Technology Internship.
