Program Overview

The Associate in Business Management degree offered by Kirtland Community College is a program of study that is available to students in a completely online format. This program aims to prepare students to work in today’s digital business world. Among the skills and knowledge this program aims to equip its students with includes the tools an individual needs to succeed in the rapidly evolving business climate. The courses required in Kirtland’s Business Management program focus on: management, marketing, and business communications. Individuals who graduate from this program with this degree should become better employees, successful business owners, or more valuable business people. This program seeks to help prepare students to take on challenges involved in the following career fields: Accountants, Auditors, Actuaries, Advertising and Marketing Managers, Budget Analysts, Business Administrators, Economists, Human Resource Managers, Real Estate Brokers, and more. The degree that students earn at the end of this program is an Associate in Applied Science.

This program aims to equip students with a general background of training necessary for entry and success in the business world. This program intends to lay a foundation for a great variety of entry-level positions that could lead to middle management positions in the Business field. By the end of the program, students should be able to convey skills such as: problem solving, decision-making, and other creative abilities. This program requires its students to take and completely at least 60 credit hours of courses in order to graduate. This includes a Core of General Education courses. These courses include English Composition I, Intermediate Algebra (or a higher Math course), a Social Science course, and a Speech course. The Business Management Core courses include: Accounting Principles I and II, Introduction to Business or Entrepreneurship, Principles of Management, Business Law, Human Resource Management, Principles of Economics (both Micro and Macro), Technical Writing or Business Correspondence, and Principles of Marketing. Students then take elective courses from the Hospitality Management core and / or the Marketing core.

This program can be completed through a combination of online courses offered by Kirtland Community College and other courses offered by the Michigan Community College Virtual Learning Collaborative.

    Kirtland Community College is a two-year public school located in Roscommon, Michigan. Kirtland was founded in 1966 under the provisions of Michigan's Public Act 188 of 1955. Kirtland's mission is “to provide innovative educational opportunities to enhance student lives and build stronger communities” with a vision to “be the first choice for learner-centered education guiding students and communities toward success.”

    Kirtland Community College offers certificates of completion and associate’s degrees. Distance learning, weekend classes, and evening classes are offered at Kirtland, and many degrees and certificates can be earned completely online.
