Accounting Clerk Certificate
The Accounting Clerk Certificate offered by Kirtland Community College is a program of study that is available to students in a completely online format. This program is intended for individuals who are interested in advancing their careers and educations by enrolling in a certification program that helps them to learn foundational and advanced skills in bookkeeping. Individuals who wish to acquire a job as a bookkeeper, qualify for a promotion in a field related to accounting or bookkeeping, to secure a raise, or to manage their own books in their personal business, are appropriate for this program. The demand for accountants is growing in the following fields: healthcare, social services, retail, wholesale, insurance, real estate, consulting, and the service industry. This program aims to equip its students with skills and knowledge related to computerized accounting systems, accounting principles, the legal aspects of bookkeeping, as well as customer relations. The credits earned from this certificate program can also be put towards a two-year degree in Business Administration offered by Kirtland Community College.
This program requires students to complete 30 credit hours of courses. Since this is a Certificate program and not an Associate Degree program, no General Education courses are required to graduate with this certificate. The Accounting Clerk Program Courses include: Accounting Principles I and II, Computer Accounting w/ Quickbooks, Entrepreneurship, Business Law, Microsoft Office, Customer Relations, Business Correspondence, and an Internship.
This program prepares its graduates to be financial record keepers for a business. Entry-level positions in accounts receivable and accounts payable are appropriate positions for graduates of this program. This program prepares students to meet bookkeeping challenges in environments such as: small to medium size businesses, non-profit organizations, government services, consulting firms, retail and wholesale trades, health and social services, finance, insurance, real estate, and the service industry. However, this certificate is ideal for individuals who wish to operate the accounting books and functions of a self-owned business.
