Kent State University in conjunction with the School of Library and Information Science, offers an online Master of Library and Information Science (M.L.I.S.) degree option. The new eDegree option is the only American Library Association accredited M.L.I.S. program in Ohio, which prepares students for positions of leadership in librarianship and the information profession.
The online option is designed to provide busy professional students the opportunity to earn a valuable and well-balanced curriculum while being flexible with physical attendance. The opportunity to schedule classes leading to an M.L.I.S. degree will amplify the resources for skilled librarians.
A Master of Library and Information Sciences degree is comprised of 37 credit hours and builds upon the basic foundation from a Bachelor’s degree program. The advanced curriculum delves into the intrinsic topics necessary for a student’s success in the desired academic positions. The specialized focus ensures future librarians a solid understanding of topics such as:
Tools for M.L.I.S. Success
Access to Information
Organization of Information
Information Technology for Library and Information Professionals
Foundations of Library and Information Science
Management for Library and Information Professionals
All courses will culminate with a final course as a thesis, to demonstrate a student’s complete understanding of the essential learning objectives.
Graduates of the M.L.I.S. program are well prepared for professional careers in many types of libraries and information centers, as well as for positions within the information industry, museums, cultural organizations and companies of all sorts and sizes.
