Program Overview

Kent State University offers an online certificate in the advanced study of Knowledge Management.  The program focuses on the concept of knowledge economy, the success of organizations and their abilities to generate adopt and diffuse the abundance of information received.  The necessary skills needed for success in the field of knowledge of economy are found in the emerging study of Knowledge Management.  

The Knowledge Management certificate is an abbreviated 18 credit hour program, comprised of core courses that introduce students to the concepts of document management, knowledge assessment and evaluation, research methods, organizational culture, organizational learning, intellectual capital, business processes and practice in communities.  In addition to the core courses, students will culminate the program with a capstone course or an inpidual investigation, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the Knowledge Management program. 

Graduates will begin to see the shift in what successful organizations see as valuable assets.  The dynamic worth of human capital and abilities is just as significant as any physical or financial asset.  A successful graduate can use the certification to advance in current positions or the program can serve as the necessary tool when entering the competitive job market.  The increased understanding of the importance of human intellect will provide a professional the innate skills needed to manage and delegate others with the fairness and objectivity of a trained leader.

    Kent State University is a large public university with its main campus located in Kent, Ohio. In addition to its main campus, Kent State also has campuses throughout Ohio in Burton, Salem, Warren, New Philadelphia, Ashtabula, Jackson Township, and East Liverpool. Founded in 1910 as the Kent State Normal School, it began as a school to train teachers. Over the years, the university has expanded and today offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in many different areas of study including liberal arts, history, journalism, business and several others.
