Program Details

Kent State University offers an online certificate program in the advanced study of Health Informatics.  The program is designed to build on the already learned foundations from a Bachelors level of education.  The certificate in Health Informatics introduces students to the necessary competencies required when performing professionally in the medical field.  Health informatics is the process by which health and medical information is gathered, recorded, analyzed, managed and redistributed.  

The certificate program delves into the advanced understandings of management principles, health care delivery, public health, patient safety, information science and computer technology.  The important role of a well-educated and supportive health informant is critical in the medical industry, the massive amounts of information need to be efficiently and effectively processed in order for nurses, doctors and other staff members to administer the correct medicines and assistance measures.  

Graduates will use the advanced certification to set high standards within a health organizations record keeping methods as well as be able to educate and advise other staff on compliance, patient privacy and information security procedures.  The program will include a capstone course, to ensure a student’s complete comprehension of the core objectives from the Health Informatics curriculum.  Graduates wishing to proceed on to earning a Master’s level degree may use the credit hours from the certificate program towards the required courses.
