Program Details

Kent State University offers an online Bachelors of Science in Public Health degree program.  The program is designed to build on the foundation from an Associate’s degree and expand on the core concepts of public health, bio-statistics, epidemiology, health policy, management, social sciences and environmental health issues.

The B.S. in Public Health is a 121 credit hour specialized curriculum.  Students have the opportunity to choose from three concentrations:  Allied Health, Health Promotion and Education or Health Services Administration. Each of the concentrations will use a foundation of general education requirements in addition to the core area of study.  General education courses build on a student’s understanding of the social and natural sciences, the arts, humanities, mathematics and literature.  They serve to supplement a student’s academics with a well-rounded perspective on other areas of higher education.

Allied Health:  This concentration adds depth to a student’s prior experience in allied health professions. Students wishing to pursue the concentration must already hold of be in the process of obtaining a state licensure.  Graduates will use the advanced academics when serving as leaders or administration professionals in local, state and governmental agencies providing health care.

Health Promotion and Education:  This concentration enables graduates to provide and educate the public in matters of healthy behavior.  Healthy behavior can be applied to areas of Alcohol, tobacco, drug use, exercise, physical activity, violence and sexual activity.  Graduates will be able to apply the learned academics when entering organizations that strive to promote health prevention as well as develop strategies for community involvement and awareness.

Health Services Administration:  This concentration is designed to guide graduates on the path of health care management.  Health care management is an important aspect of the industry; it serves as the non-clinical resource for those professionals seeking information as well as service.  A manager is responsible for ensuring ethical health care administration, providing a solid infrastructure as well as ensuring effective and efficient service among doctors, nurses and patients.
