The Kennebec Valley Community College General Science program offers students a solid foundation of learning in both science and mathematics. This program is made for students who are looking to study health-related careers, pre-pharmacy, biology, physical science or pre-engineering. The main mission of the Associate in General Science degree at Kennebec Valley Community College is to help students form a solid education foundation in science and mathematics. With this foundation, students will then have a wide range of opportunities to transfer to other universities in their goal of a bachelors degree, or even earn a better entrance into a science relates career.
After graduates have completed the General Science Associate Degree, they are expected to perform competency in accessing scientific information when using basic science literature. Graduates should also be critical thinkers and problem solvers in their specific areas. In laboratory settings, graduates should be able to demonstrate techniques that are commonly seen. Finally all graduates should have the capability to apply the core concepts they have learned in the real world to achieve the best solutions whatever it may be.
With this associate degree many students will have the opportunity to enhance their education by transferring o other health or science degree programs. With this educational background students will be able to choose specific programs they are interested in. A few programs and career opportunities include animal care and research facilities, agricultural research, bioscience laboratories, biotechnology companies, quality control, and plant propagation and greenhouse facilitates.
