Program Details

Kennebec Valley Community College offers an Associates Degree in Liberal Studies through partnerships with the Maine Community College system and university of Maine system.  The Associate in Arts in Liberal Studies is programmed to prepare students to explore careers, educational interests, and help in the transfer process to other institutions.

With this program, students have the opportunity to select classes that are best suited for their careers and are flexible with their schedules. With the help of advisors, students will be well prepared to meet their professional, academic and personal career goals.

Kennebec Valley’s mission with the Associate in Arts degree in Liberal Studies is to help students build a strong base in general education. This will help prepare students to transfer into other college or university programs with a goal of a bachelor, an associate in science, or even an associate in applied science degree. Students may also be interested to enter the workplace with their basic knowledge and skills in any of their career choices.

To complete the Associate Degree, students are required to complete 61/62 credits in the Liberal Studies program. Students must also obtain a minimum grade of “C” or better in their core liberal arts classes and a final GPA of a 2.0 of better.

After completing the Associate Degree in Liberal Studies, graduates will be expected to demonstrate basic skills in listening, speaking, writing and reading in all situations. Graduates will also have the basic skills needed in math, critical analysis and logical thinking to help solve issues that may arise. Graduates must also be able to comprehend and apply their research methods and scientific inquiry to the real world.
