Program Details

The online Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Reading Specialist program prepares participants to serve and positively impact children and young adults as reading specialists and provide support and intervention for struggling readers.  The curriculum prepares participants to expand literacy knowledge to individuals and educational institutions through literacy leadership and provides experience in teaching reading and differentiating instruction to provide support and intervention for readers at all levels.  As reading specialists, graduates will provide ongoing professional development as literacy leaders within schools.

Classes include, but are not limited to:

  • Literacy assessment
  • Approaches to reading instruction
  • Theoretical models of reading

Students may choose to take the Master’s Project or the Master’s Thesis. Emphasis is placed on educational technology, research, scholarship, diversity, curriculum, teaching, and learning.
