Program Overview

The Master of Science in Operations Research degree program provides indepth studies in applied mathematics used for problem-solving and making optimal decisions. Students are able to look at real-world problems and develop a mathematical model that typically includes an objective or goal that is maximized or minimized and a set of constraints. New and existing methods aid the student in reaching optimal or near-optimal solutions that typically provide much improved benefits over the previous state of the system.

    Requirements

    Students will need to come to campus for one oral examination.

    Application requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, with a GPA of at least 3.0 on the last 60 hours
    • Documentation including official transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and statement of objectives
    • GRE scores
    • TOEFL scores (if applicable for international students)

    School Overview

    Kansas State University offers master’s degrees in chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical and software engineering; engineering management; and operations research. All courses are available online. K-State’s engineering master’s degree programs are designed for engineers with bachelor’s degrees who are seeking to advance in the engineering profession through graduate-level studies. Students can complete the program without traveling to the Kansas State University campus, though programs may require a campus visit after all coursework is completed so the final exam can be conducted with the student’s graduate committee. K-State also offers an engineering graduate certificate and minor that can be completed online.
