Program Overview

Kansas State University’s Master of Science in Academic Advising is designed for practicing academic advisors and administrators who would like to further their education, university faculty seeking advising knowledge beyond their discipline, and students anticipating academic advising roles. This 30-credit-hour degree will provide advisors with the skills they need for effective academic advising, such as the ability to recognize and utilize contributions of diversity, theory, practice and research. It prepares advisors to contribute to the development and learning of college students through informed advising practice.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 from an accredited institution. Students not meeting the 3.0 GPA requirement may still be accepted on the basis of GRE/MAT scores.
    • Submit supplemental documents including: transcripts, letters of recommendation, affidavit of financial support
    • English language proficiency (if applicable)

Online master’s degrees are offered in academic advising; educational leadership; adult and continuing education; and curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in English as a second language, digital teaching and learning; or educational computing; design; and online learning. K-State also offers online graduate certificate programs in academic advising and digital teaching and learning, as well as an English as a second language endorsement and reading specialist endorsement. Many of K-State’s online education programs require students to have a valid teaching license.
