Program Details
The online Post-Professional Doctorate in Occupational Therapy is designed for practicing registered occupational therapists who want to merge their experience and practical skills with prevailing professional knowledge and scholarship to prepare for leadership roles without interrupting their careers. This clinically-focused program allows students to become agents of change within their communities and advance their careers, the field of occupational therapy, and the lives of their patients. The curriculum prepares students for leadership roles with courses focusing on fundamental theory, ethics, policy, advocacy, and critical inquiry of scholarship while professional focus courses cover topics such as community-based services, environmental adaptations, the adult health care continuum, and leadership as it applies to higher education, program development, and business.

This program also requires:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy
- Master’s degree in occupational therapy or a related master’s degree
- Proof of initial certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) or AOTCB initial certification (prior to NBCOT)
- Verification of employment as an occupational therapist
- Proof of licensure to practice (if applicable in the state of current practice)
- Current membership to the American Occupational Therapy Association
Students are required to attend a one-week, on-campus class offered during the summer as well as the Symposium Day at the end of the curriculum. Attendance at the on-campus orientation is also recommended.
