Program Overview

Ivy Tech Community College offers an online Associate of Science in Business Administration degree. A business degree will cater to career goals for students who wish to start a small business, work in private enterprise, a non-profit, or government agency or advance in an existing career position. The A.S. degree program can also serve as a foundation for further educational aspirations at a four-year institution.  The Business Administration program can be a stepping stone to a successful career or company by providing opportunities and giving the skills needed to succeed.

Business organizations operate on long standing ethical principles and with a business degree students are able to work in a variety of for-profit and not-for-profit environments. Ivy Tech offers three options, the Technical Certificate, Associate of Applied Science and Associate of Science, through online distance education. All business program students are required to complete a common core of five classes that focus on business principles and technical skills necessary for successful employment or further education at a four-year institution. Graduates preparing for immediate entry-level career options will take additional professional and technical courses needed to be successful in the competitive job market.

The Associate of Science degree prepares students for transfer to a four-year university in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree. The A.S. curriculum offers a strong focus on the fundamentals of business such as accounting, economics, and mathematics. The Associate of Science degree in Business Administration from Ivy Tech Community College transfers to all Indiana public institutions and to many of the private colleges and universities. Graduates of the degree program will also earn the Transfer General Education Certificate. Students will graduate from the 60 credit hour Associate of Science in Business Administration program with a solid understanding of core business topics such as:  Introduction to Business, Introduction to Microcomputers, English Composition, Business Law, Financial Accounting, Fundamentals of Public Speaking, Managerial Accounting and a final Capstone Course. The general education requirements cover the humanities, social science and science concepts to ensure a well balanced education.

Graduates of the A.S. degree program will find themselves in entry-level career position in areas like:  Supervisors of Office and Administrative Support Workers, Bank Tellers, Customer Service Representatives, Human Resources Assistants, Shipping, Receiving, and Traffic Clerks, Insurance Claims and Policy Processing Clerks, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Sales Representatives or use the degree as a foundation for higher education for career enhancement.

    Ivy Tech Community College was founded in 1963 as Indiana Vocational Technical College. Back then, it was focused primarily on technical and vocational education. Today, ITCC is Indiana’s only full-fledged community college, offering more than 150 programs in the divisions of Health, Technology, Business & Public Services, and University/Transfer, as well as transfer programs with in-state and out-of-state schools. Students can choose from more than 1,000 online classes.
